So this is a true story that someone told me: you can choose to believe it or not.
Once this person and some other students lived in a house in an old part of the country where many of the original 18th century buildings still stand. One evening at a party, one of the people went upstairs to go to bed since he had to leave early the next morning. He laid down and a few minutes later, he heard the door open, but didn't turn around. Someone came in and sat on the bed next to him and rubbed his back. He thought it was his wife, and I think he said something to the person, who didn't respond. He turned over only to see there was no one in the room. Startled, he got up and ran downstairs to see his wife and friends still downstairs. He asked them who had touched him and who went upstairs. They told him that no one had left the table after he left.

Early the next morning, before dawn, he got dressed and left (he was in the Navy and had to report to his boat.) As he walked out the back door, a woman in an 18th century dress greeted him. He tipped his hat and she said "good day" as she walked past. He realized that it was far too early in the morning for any of the costume interpreters to be there yet. He turned around and the woman was gone.

Since then, I've kind of had a pet story of a ghost in love with a human who has to watch her beloved from the veil of the afterlife with no way of ever truly being with him. I love ghost stories (non violent ones.... I don't care for blood or torture of humans). I heard some other supposedly true stories that are really interesting.

Reminds me an awful lot of a sad story I was told, as a child. This woman, too, was doomed to never be with her lover, and died waiting for him to come home, from sea.

No idea if it was told to me by my parents, or by media, but I've always known it, somewhat.

Either way, the emotion on her face is just gorgeous.
